It’s a long, almost two-year, process to get a novel published. All We Left Behind sold to Simon Pulse a little over a year ago, and it won’t be on the shelves till December 1st, 2015. But every few months something exciting is sent to me in the mail: an editorial letter, a cover design, copy edits, or a first-pass proof. But last week, this faaaaancy box was left on my doorstep:
Inside were my first-ever Advanced Reader Copies (aka: ARCs!).
I may have been a little excited to get them.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! How wonderful is this?! It’s my book, formatted and bound as, well … a real book! They even have that page-y new-book smell!
Advanced Reader Copies (ARCs) are used for promotional purposes, to get reviews, share with librarians, and get the buzz out about the book! The hardcover novel won’t be available until December. But you can always pre-order it here.
Thanks for indulging in my ARC excitement! I feel like a mommy-to-be showing off early sonogram baby-pictures. This book has been in gestation for years and it’s finally starting to feel real. My first “baby” is going to be out in the world in a short 7 months!
Happy writing everyone!

Congratulations. That’s fantastic–and very exciting. Being still in the land of first draft, that seems like something beyond the distant horizon for me. Way to go!
