AWP 2016 Awesomeness

12923163_10207648924479370_2681231652507229340_nI had an absolute blast at AWP16 this past weekend!

I’m so grateful to everyone who came to my panel Staging the Story: Screenwriting Techniques for YA Fiction and saw me, Cori, Amy Rose, and Jennifer chat up a storm. It was a lively and wonderful discussion with a packed room! We talked story structure, visual storytelling, creative limitations, scene building, dialog, gesture, and how to use cinematic techniques for both contemporary YA and genre YA. It was truly awesome. I loved talking craft with these wicked smart ladies.

Thank you also to everyone who came up to say hello after the panel. It’s been lovely to meet you and I’m so happy to hear the panel had you scribbling down notes and sparking light bulbs about your creative work.

This was my first time attending AWP and it was a whirlwind of fun! I went to several incredible panels and my imagination and intellectual brain are dancing with excitement. I plan to do a write up of some of the tips I learned in those panels here on the blog. So stay tuned!

Happy writing everyone!
