Last week I started our discussion on the pros and cons between traditional publishing and self-publishing. Both of these are viable options in today’s writing market … the question is which one is right for you?
Last week’s video covered:
- Submissions, gatekeepers, rights, royalties, advances, and contracts.
- Watch last weeks video here: PART 1 – Traditional Publishing vs. Self-Publishing
In this week’s video we’re going to dig into the meaty topics of:
- The editorial process and having a support staff to help you make your book the best it can be. As well as the risks of not having an editor as an indie publisher.
- Marketing and promotion … and you might be surprised to hear some of this! Just because one has a traditional publishing deal, doesn’t guarantee huge marketing support.
- The ugly truth about building your author platform.
- The market itself … who the readers are, what price-points books sell at, how frequently readers buy books, and the trends in the marketplace. Yup, indie books have trends too!
Then next week, in video 3, we’ll talk about the pace of publishing (which is VERY different in each of these publishing models), and the overall author/publishing life.
Success is relative. What kind of writing life are you dreaming of? Make it happen!
